Plastic Surgery 101: How to Choose the Right Surgeon

You’ve probably read time and time again that choosing who will perform your plastic surgery procedure is the most important decision after electing to have plastic surgery. Unfortunately now one really tells you how to choose the right surgeon? So, we’ve put together a list of things to look for to make your search a little bit easier.

1. Plastic Surgery Experience

Your surgeon should have years of experience performing the specific cosmetic procedure you’re considering. Find out if this surgeon has a specialty, be sure that specialty matches up with your needs. Some surgeons may specialize in a variety of plastic surgery procedures, just make sure one of them is what you’ll be getting.

2. Recommendations & Reviews

Do you have a friend or family member who has had plastic surgery? If so, the best place to start is to ask them for their personal recommendations. If you’re the plastic surgery pioneer of the group, check for online reviews and customer testimonials. Google, Yelp and Facebook are great places to start!

3. Before and After Plastic Surgery Photos

Almost all plastic surgeons now in days post before and after photos on their website or Instagram to help them show potential patients their work before they even schedule a consultation.

Using before and after photos is a great way to choose your plastic surgeon. However, you will have to be on the lookout for red flags. Photos that appear to have very different lighting and/or are in an entirely different setting, and photos that appear to be very outdated are two of these red flags.

4. Is the Price “Too Good To Be True”?

While not uncommon for plastic surgery practices to offer the occasional deal or discount on certain treatments and procedures throughout the year, prices should be around the same for each plastic surgeon. If you come across someone who is priced way lower than their competition, this should be a huge deterrant.

5. Do They Have Any Hospital Affiliations?

Last, but not least, find out if your surgeon has any hospital affiliations. Reputable surgeons will almost always have hospital privileges with an accredited facility. Not only is this a great way to ensure your surgeon is legit, but also a way to ensure you are safe should anything go wrong during your plastic surgery procedure.
