Get Glowing Skin: 6 Ways to Maintain a Youthful Glow

Did you know that the appearance of a woman’s skin on, not only on her face, but also her hands, arms and chest greatly impacts how old she is perceived to be? In other words, it’s not just your wrinkles and fine lines that give you away. It’s not always easy to maintain a youthful glow as we age, but there are some things we can do to get glowing skin, no matter what our age.

Unfortunately, aging is inevitable, but just because we have to age doesn’t mean we can’t look great while doing it! Maintaining a youthful glow will help you fool every the best “age guessers”, and whenever you feel like bringing in the “big guns” for a facelift, we know a guy… but that’s a topic for another time.

Here are eight ways to get glowing skin and maintain a youthful appearance…

Become BFFs with SPF

As most of us know, UV rays break down the elastin in your skin, causing a saggy and dull appearance, wrinkles, age spots and uneven skin tone, and more. So it shouldn’t be shocking to learn that damage from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays is responsible for roughly 90% of our skin’s visible signs of aging.

How do we combat this? Well for starters, always, and we mean ALWAYS, wear a good quality sunscreen. Even in the winter, even when it’s gloomy, even when you’re planning on spending the day hungover in bed. Be sure that your sunscreen has an SPF rating of at least 35, as well as that it’s a “broad spectrum” sunscreen. What this means is that the sunscreen will block both UVA and UVB rays, as well as other free radicals in the environment. Lastly, remember to reapply every few hours for maximum protection. If you think you’ll forget, set a few alarms in your phone with the label “SPF TIME” and keep it handy for quick access and re-application.

Stay Hydrated & Keep Active

Possibly the easiest way to achieve glowing and younger looking skin is to stay hydrated. As a rule of thumb, you should aim for 8 glasses of filtered water each day. This will help to not only keep your skin looking radiant, but also to support optimal health. Dehydrated skin tends to look dry and dull. This is obviously the exact opposite of the glowing skin we are trying to achieve, and it emphasizing wrinkles and aging… double “ew”.

Did you know that your daily (or weekly, we don’t judge) sweat sessions have been proven to also help you look younger? Daily exercise increases blood flow, thus moving oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. This increase in blood flow helps lead to a more youthful appearance. Not to mention, sweating is a great way to clean out those pores. Just make sure you wash your face (and apply SPF) when you’re done.

Maintain & Upgrade Your Beauty Rest

Everyone knows that rest is essential for beauty, thus the cliche question “did you get your beauty rest?”. So we don’t need to go into how important it is to get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep per night… but we will tell you how to upgrade your nightly zzz’s. It’s simple, just get a satin pillowcase or two. Tossing and turning on a rough fabrics like cotton every night can contribute to the breakdown of collagen overtime, leading to wrinkles and dull looking skin.

Change your Diet

Eat your fruits and veggies. It’s as simple as that, kind of. Not only do they provide key nutrients keep us healthy, they also increase intake of phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are important because they help your body ward off the damaging effects of free radicals.

While we have you here, consuming too much caffeine or alcohol wreaks havoc on your skin. They dehydrate your body and strip it of key nutrients. Everything is fine in moderation, but water is definitely the preferred beverage of choice, as mentioned above.

Establish an Aesthetician Recommended Skincare Routine

Instead of seeking skincare recommendations from bloggers and TikTok influencers, try going to a professional. Not only do they know what’s best for your skin because they’re trained to, since they actually are working with you, they’re also familiar with your specific skin type. In short, products that work for others, won’t work the same for you and it’s always better to seek a professional opinion.

Schedule Regular Facials

We cover the important of making regular facials apart of your overall skincare routine in another post. However, we needed to still mention it here, as regular facials are a very important step in maintaining youthful and glowing skin. If you’re not making time for regular facials, you should start. Not only to get glowing skin, but also as a form of self-care and relaxation.
