Dermal Fillers: Are You a Good Candidate?

Are you noticing a loss of volume in your face and wondering why? You’re not alone. As we age we experience a decrease in volume and elasticity of this skin. This leads to wrinkles, sagging skin, and etched lines on the face. That’s where dermal fillers come in. They can not only help smooth lines, plump lips, but also aid in restoring an overall more youthful appearance.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Fillers are a soft, gel-like substances that are injected directly under your skin. They are composed of several compounds, but the real star of the show is hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a naturally occurring material that is found in the body. HA helps keep skin plump and hydrated, but depletes overtime due to aging.

Are You a Good candidate?

Fillers address a number of common age-related concerns. If you’re looking to smooth under eye circles, lift your cheekbones or smooth out lip lines, for example, you may be a good candidate for dermal fillers. Additionally, if you’re looking for a way to restore a more youthful appearance with little to no downtime, dermal fillers are the way to go.

What to Expect

Every experience will be different, however since fillers are a non-surgical treatment they are typically done in an office visit. Your injector will start by carefully injecting the filler under the skin of the desired treatment area. In most cases results can be seen immediately, although it is not uncommon to have some mild bruising and swelling at the injection site for a few days afterwards. Everyone is different, but pain is typically minimal and can be tolerated with ease.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last

Typically, dermal fillers will last anywhere from 6 to 18 months but results depend on factors such as the patient and the injection area. For example, cheek filler will usually last longer than lip injections.
